Questions you should ask when buying a sex toy?

Questions you should ask when buying a sex toy?

Sonia Williams |

Don't know which Questions are the right ones?

Buying your first Adult Toy? Have no clue what you're looking for? You are not alone. It's not easy talking to a complete stranger about your sex life, especially if you're none the wiser on what you're looking for and what questions to ask. Typically when I ask someone what they're looking for they either know exactly what they came in for or they have no idea where to start and I'm often met with "I know this is probably a stupid question." Let me assure you that there are no stupid questions and most of the time the question you have is one we have an answer to.

Usually if I am working with someone who is shopping for their first Adult Toy, I have a list of questions I'll ask them to get a better idea of what toy will give them the best experience.

  • Have you ever used a Toy before?
  • Do you prefer internal, external stimulation or both?
  • Are there any materials that you are sensitive to?
  • Do you have a price range you would like to stick to?
  • Would you prefer a Rechargeable toy or a Battery operated One?
  • Are you looking for a toy with a lot of power or something less powerful?
  • Is a Warranty important to you?
  • Will you be using this toy in the Shower or Tub?

Depending on where you are shopping, usually there will be someone to help guide you through your experience and make sure you're purchasing a toy that's going to meet all of your needs. I think that these are some of the most important questions to ask to navigate through all the toys that are available and make sure your going home with the right one.

If you have never used a toy before that tells us a lot, it means that we want to steer you towards something that's very user friendly and is not going to be too complicated or advanced.

If you are one of the millions of women that can not have an orgasm from strictly penetration and you prefer clitoral stimulation then that narrows down and gives us more of a definitive idea of the category of toys that are going to work best for you. Not everyone has sensitivities to specific materials and most toys now don't contain latex (which is one of the most common allergens) but there are those who have reactions to specific materials which helps us steer you into a more specific group of toys.

We carry toys that range anywhere from $10 to $300 and getting a better sense of what your budget is will give us a better guide to follow. A lot of people would not even think of this as an important question to ask but Rechargeable vs. Battery operated tells us a lot. If you are shopping for your first toy we typically recommend something that has multiple speed variables and does have a big difference between its lowest setting and its highest setting so that you can start off low and find what speed works best for you, but there are people who are not new to Adult Toys and know that they need a sex toy with a lot of power.

Most Toy companies come with some sort of manufacturer warranty now, but just like buying a warranty for a laptop if having that piece of mind if your toy has a defect you are covered is important to you it's important for us to know.

The reason I personally think "Will you be using this toy in the shower or tub" is an important question to ask is because a lot of women actually do masturbate and use their vibrators in the tub or shower and there is a huge difference between a toy that is "splash proof" and a toy that is submersible.

Hopefully this gives you some frame of reference if you are unsure and you're looking for a toy but don't know where to begin. We are here to answer all of your questions no matter how silly you may think they are!!
