I know, I know, its an intimidating thought. Not everyone is super comfortable thinking about anal play, but if you are thinking about it, you're not alone. Let us give you some tips and tricks.
What you should know
Unfortunately, there are a lot of myths out there about anal sex. Only men are interested in it, women do not enjoy it, anal orgasms are not real, and more. FALSE! Anal play is not just for women or homosexual men, it can be enjoyable for straight men as well! There is a stigma and negative connotation that surrounds talking about anal. Why?
Many people view it as taboo, are not discussing it, and/or getting incorrect information. If you're thinking of trying anal sex, don't be so shy that you leave the door closed for any possibility. Being open and communicating with your partner about it is one of the biggest things many couples make the mistake of not doing. If you don't discuss your wants or concerns, then you are facing the possibility of doing it wrong and therefor, could have a bad experience and could possibly never want to try it again. Anal sex can be very exciting, but it is not something you want to rush into. Both partners should take their time when incorporating anal play into their sex life.
You probably already know that you should use lubricants. Lube is really your best friend when it comes to anal play, mainly because the anal area does not self lubricate, so apply a generous amount of lubricant...then apply some more! It really makes a world of a difference and makes the whole act of anal play a lot more enjoyable for both partners.
Getting Started
Now, this goes for women as well as men. One of the most common things I hear from female customers is that they're so nervous to try anal in the first place that they just tense up, body and mind. One of the keys to anal play, as the receiver, is staying relaxed. Include some foreplay, get your partner nice and "loosey-goosey". Chances are, the receivers body won't be as tense, making it easier for the giver and making it more enjoyable for the receiver! Take your time, part of the fun for a lot of couples is the moments leading up to the act.
Anal Toys
Use the best anal sex toys. I highly recommend starting out small. Some people use a finger while performing oral to get the anal area used to the feeling, while other people like to use an anal toy. Introducing anal toys such as plugs, beads, or vibrating prostate massagers during foreplay, can help ease the transition into anal sex. Remember though, any toy used anally should have a flared base to avoid any disappearing acts. Also, all the best anal toys should be washed thoroughly before being used anywhere to prevent the spread of any bacteria.
Lubricants
Personally, I think using a silicone lubricant makes anal sex much more enjoyable because silicone lubes don't dry up. Since the anal area does not self lubricate, it's best to use something that stays as wet and slippery as possible to make it more comfortable for both partners. There are many lubricants on the market that are directed more for anal play that contain relaxing agents or numbing agents. While a lot of people rely on these products, I suggest using them sparingly. If you use a lubricant with a numbing agent, you risk the chance of numbing the anal area so much that you won't feel any discomfort and that can have consequences. A little discomfort is to be expected at the beginning, but it's your body's way of telling you to slow down. If you numb the anal area completely, you could tear your skin and not be aware.
